Transito is far from a regular exhibition. It is created by the Dutch architects of Space Encounters and designed as an architectural structure consisting of 25 arcades. Occasionally it is transformed into an intense light shows with musical performances. After its premiere during Salone del Mobile 2018 and it was recently rebuilt as a pop-up bar and installation in ‘De School’, Amsterdam.
The structure stimulates connections, creates transparency as well as places for intimacy and protection. The installation tends to mystify, creating abstract and highly spherical scenography’s. The arches have a spectacular light-show designed by Children of the Light.
The installation originally a 50-meter long gallery in the Museum Diocesano in Milan. It took its forms from Milan’s symmetrical structure of the Neoclassicism.
Coloured waves of light make the gallery seem endless while by converting the frequencies of the visual spectrum. The installation gets the extra dimension of sonic matter, according to its creators.
Space Encounters from Amsterdam is in constant search for innovation and different perspectives. This is expressed in both the practice of modern technology and the revaluation of old techniques and analogue methods. Any obtained commission or taken initiative is an inducement to create an applied artwork.
The studio liberates itself from the dogma of strict functionalities and researches old and new forms of space and material, free from self inflicted burdens. They do not pretend that architecture provides solutions but acknowledge that good architecture is relevant. Serendipity is crucial in our research.
