Design Miami’s 10th anniversary has raised the bar with an unparalleled gallery program and a host of exciting events, collaborations, talks and satellites. This year’s fair has brought together 35 leading design galleries from around the world to present beautifully conceived and highly individual exhibitions for which the fair has become renowned.

Design Miami/ is the global forum for design. Each fair brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. Occurring alongside the Art Basel fairs in Miami, USA each December and Basel, Switzerland each June, Design Miami/ has become the premier venue for collecting, exhibiting, discussing and creating collectible design.

Highlights this year include special anniversary presentations from a number of the galleries that have been part of the fair since its 2005 debut, alongside a blend of exceptional twentieth century pieces from the US and Europe, the launch of new works by some of the most exciting design talents working today, and the inaugural edition of the Design Curio program, which offer a new and immersive experience for visitors.

“The Miami design market has changed quite a few times,” says Nina Johnson-Milewski, director and founder of Gallery Diet, Miami. “It’s changed from a market based on snowbirds and vacationers to a market that’s homegrown and influenced by the institutions here. There’s a generation of people here who have seen the Rubells and the de la Cruzes and what they’ve done, and are trying to create their own generation of that.” While the gallery’s mainstay is art, she explains that with such a large community of visual artists living in the city, she sees a lot of desire for crossover into the design fields. “I’ve seen a lot of visual artists wanting to work in designing – making products or working as creative consultants – and that’s really exciting.
